1.What do you believe are some benefits of being able to share resources online and how can this be used by you in your future classroom?
2 Based on the Open Course Ware, what are some of the reasons for sharing resources?
3. Try out the web 2.0 tools, and give your feedback.4. Which web 2.0 toold do you find the most useful and why?How can u use these tools in the classroom?
5. More specifically, How can you use kerpoof.com to enhance your student's understanding of characters and stories as well as their familiarity with technology?
1. I absolutely love that there are free resources online! They come in handy so often when I am designing lesson plans and activities. Without these resources, I don’t think I would do as well in my lesson planning because I wouldn’t know where to start. They provide excellent ideas that I can run with and then make my own lesson from. In my future classroom, I could use these resources to create lesson plans, post my own lesson plans for someone else to benefit from, and keep up with “the cool kids” in lesson plans! As a teacher I will constantly need to revise my lesson plans and the free online resources will help me a great deal and make my job a lot easier.
ReplyDelete2. According to Open Course Ware, some reasons for sharing resources are that they allow people in less privileged areas to access necessary resources and allow colleagues to share ideas with each other without taking time out of their busy schedule to visit one another. Sharing provides opportunities for materials to quickly spread across the world and ideas to be shared.
3. I tried out the KerPoof web 2.0 game and I was a little confused. I earned some coins but then I didn’t know why. After searching a bit more on the site, I realized that it is a game about perspective. I played it again and it was much more fun the next time! It’s a very interactive game for children to play to learn about perspectives in different places and circumstances with different objects.
4. I found Golgster to be the most useful in the classroom because it creates different interactive posters for the students to click on and deepen their understanding of a certain topic. A teacher could use this 2.0 tool to share information with their students and incorporate it into their lesson plans.
5. KerPoof can be used to enhance students’ understanding of characters in a story by character mapping. In this game, the student has to place characters in the correct character map in order to gain coins. This game also helps with students’ familiarity with technology because they are required to maneuver around the page to learn how to use it. I had to go back and play it a second time in order to do it correctly so it caused me to problem solve and think critically about how to win the game.
There are several benefits of being able to share resources online. I love being able to use great resources to help me create lessons or create my own based on ideas I find on the web. I can use these shared resources in my classroom by looking at sample lesson plans shared online to get an idea of how to begin my own lessons. In the article “Open Educational Resources Serve the World”, the author talks about how high quality education resources are being shared for local use and opening them to others around the world. As a future educator I greatly appreciate the available online resources, and I hope to share my ideas as a way of giving back to help aide others in need.
ReplyDeleteBased on the Open Course Ware, there are many reasons for sharing resources. One reason for sharing resources is a person’s desire to make a difference in the lives of families who are less fortunate than others. Some other reasons for sharing resources relate to institutional goals and benefits. Having these resources available allows for a richer experience for both teachers and students.
I tried out the glogster web 2.0 game and thought it was a very useful website to let children be creative and create their own posters. Glogster is a resource that is provides interactive learning for young children and allows children to explore and design on their own. I enjoyed making several posters and thought it was a fun website!
I thought all of the web 2.0 tools can be useful for children of all ages. As a future educator we can use these tools to expose children to new forms of technology that will help them explore different ways they can be creative online. These are great tools to help young children become familiar with the web and the resources available for them.
Kerpoof.com is a great tool that can enhance children’s understanding of characters and stories as well as their familiarity with technology. I explored the website and created my own story. It was a lot of fun and children can learn to use characters and make the characters have thoughts or say things using text bubbles. This is a great way for children to learn how to use technology and become creative and make their own story using various characters and settings.
Im glad you guys found the web resources useful for the classroom. I liked how you both discussed using these sites for lesson plans. Heather, I like how you said how you would post your lesson plans online for other's benefit. And Ashley, it is good to realize the importance of having the children explore the internet. Would you allow your students to freely explore the internet while inside your classroom or would you only give them the tools to do so at home?
ReplyDeleteA major reason for sharing resources created for local communities is individuals’ desire to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. Other reasons relate to institutional goals and benefits. In a traditional campus setting, for example, few faculty members see their colleagues’ syllabi, much less their teaching materials. The more resources someone has the better off they will be when it comes down to them understanding what is expected of them. Sharing information is a good thing. Sometimes people do not want to share their work because they are afraid it may be taken and then they will not receive the credit. Allowing others to view your work gives them more opportunities to succeed because they are seeing so many different options.
ReplyDeleteSharing resources will be a definite in my future classroom because of the positive benefits is has.
All of the web 2.0 tools are useful in different ways. Whether you want to write, create a movie, talk to others, etc. there are specific tools for each. The best part about it, it is all free. The only issue with web 2.0 is that it sometimes can be intimidating and challenging because it is something new to figure out. Once the user gets past that stage the tool is very useful.
I personally think the most useful 2.0 tool is SKYPE! I absolutely love skype and I think it is great and everyone should have it. Since I am in college and I don't get to see my family often I go on there daily to talk to my family via webcam. Skype is used all around the world. I skype with my friend Aya who lives in Japan! And this is all free!! Skype can connect anyone around the world in a click of the mouse.
kerpoof.com is a great online resource for students to use to enhance their story comprehension skills. With kerpoof.com you can create your own story which requires the children to pick and choose what they want to write about in their story. With the children having the power to choose what they want in the story allows them to comprehend what goes first in a story, in the middle and what comes at the end.
The fact that there are so many free resources available online is awesome. It's also beneficial in many ways. It connects different areas of the world and enables communication and the sharing of ideas. It helps others become more aware of institutional goals and benefits as well. As for how it would help me, it'd be a great way to plan my lessons. There are infinite great ideas available that I wouldn't think of on my own. Sometimes even seeing one idea helps you think of your own. The fact that we have the internet to find all these ideas is a huge benefit for our generation.
ReplyDeleteAfter looking at all the different web 2.0 tools, I thought they were all really interesting. I knew about some of them such as Skype, Wikis, and blogging, but the others were all new to me. I loved all the creative activities you could create and the accessibility that they offer. They all can allow classmates to make so many connections within their classroom and outside as well.
I think that the most useful web 2.0 tool is either Glogster, Yackpack or Vocaroo. I liked how they made communication easier. The Glogster was cool because it allows students to make posters that are interactive so in a way they are extending their learning by including technology. Yackpack is also a good idea because it is similar to blogging and keeps the class connected. Vocaroo was interesting because you can record your voice but use it for many purposes. When I listened to the examples, I never thought of half of them such as recording childrens reading, creating instructions in different languages, and capturing parts of songs. It's useful for young learners who may not be capable readers. One other activity I liked was Voicethread. I watched the one example it gave with the guessing game which was a fun activity for students to do. It gave a picture of an object zoomed in and allowed students to zoom in and out a little and place comments and see other comments to guess what it could be. Then, you could see what it actually is.
Kerpoof was both educational and really fun. I was also a little confused like Heather the first time I tried it because I didn't understand the coin thing or how to navigate it. But as I tried each activity, I understood more and saw the opportunities for creativity within. It allows students to understand elements of a story better and to play around and have some fun. It also helps students learn the benefits and opportunities technology has to offer.
I agree with you, Sara, I think Skype is very useful. I love keeping in touch with my friends and family who don't live close to me. How could we use Skype in our classrooms? Perhaps using it to talk to classes in different countries. How can this benefit your class? Can you think of any other uses of Skype in the classroom?
ReplyDelete1. I think that the open resources on the internet are a great tool. There are so many ideas out there to strike up some thinking in order to start planning for my future teaching positions. We are taught that it is good to share ideas with others because they may design a lesson however you can change it to make it your very own idea. They really give you a good place to start.
ReplyDelete2. Some reasons for sharing resources are that it could help others get started or give some ideas. It allows all people to be able to access the information and do what they want with it. It is a quick way to share ideas, get feedback, and help other teachers.
3. I tried the different tools and found that they would be very useful for the children to learn while having fun. This is crucial for the children so they don’t become board and become a problem.
4. I found Golgster to be the most useful in the classroom because it creates different poster for the children to use. A teacher could use this 2.0 tool to share information with their students and incorporate it into their lesson plans to make them more appealing and fun for the children.
5. Kerpoof.com is a great tool that can improve children’s understanding of characters and stories. As a teacher I could create a story and then walk the children through creating theirs. this is a great way for children to learn how to use technology as well.
I think that skype is a really good tool because it can be used for so many reasons in the classroom. You could use it to talk to people in other countries and learn more about their culture or use it as a type of communication with families. I think glogster is also a really great tool. I have never seen this before and it could really help students to be motivated about learning. It seems like a creative, interactive way to make learning new and exciting. I watched the simplybox overview to get an idea of what it was about. It seems like a cool way for teachers to stay organized in the classroom. There's so many ideas for teachers on the internet and this web tool would be very useful for teachers because they can just box in information or activity ideas they want instead of having to print out the whole website or saving it to favorites. When they need an idea it's like your own virtual filing cabinet.
ReplyDeleteI think that the most useful web 2.0 tools are the blogs and wikis. I think that teacher-family communication is really important and these tools are great for families to use. A lot of times the information sent home with children is lost in backpacks or on the bus so all that information could be sent home as well as be put on the blogs/wikis for families. Some families wouldn't have access to the internet to use these tools, but it would be very beneficial to the families that did have access. In the beginning of the school year you could meet with families and teach them how to use these tools and how to access them in their community if they didn't have internet access at home. I think it’s a great way for families to stay up to date on what their children are doing in class and for them to stay involved. With so many families busy running around between work, sporting events, clubs, etc, blogs and wikis are great ways for teachers to communicate with them. While families are at work they can just get on the computer and see what their children are up to. It definitely helps with the home-school connection. All of the web 2.0 tools can be very useful in the classroom. I haven’t seen any of them used in my experiences in classrooms so far, but they’re something I would definitely want to use to engage my students and make learning more fun.
Sharing resources has so many positive aspects. It is not only a great way to learn but a great way to share. The community building aspect is also very interesting. For those who want to step outside their normal boundaries, having different recourses is a great way to learn with less immediate social pressure and it can be done at one's own pace.
ReplyDeleteI liked glogster, it seemed very creative, edgy and fun, all things students would appreciate.
Parts of kerpoof.com were easy, but other parts took me a little while figure out, like making a movie. This site can be a great way to informal evaluations of students. It may show if children understand how a story is constructed, reveal something in the students mind, or even bring awareness to the teacher of a student’s hidden talent.
1. “A major reason for sharing resources created for local communities is individuals’ desire to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. Other reasons relate to institutional goals and benefits.” Sharing resources allows others how to learn new ideas, and helps people share their own ideas. In my classroom, using shared resources will help me greatly. It is good to share ideas with one another so that new ideas can be sparked from each other. As a teacher I may find a lesson that has some good points, but I might want to change it using my own ideas and activities.
ReplyDelete2. Some ways of sharing resources based on the Open Course Ware are the people’s desire to make a difference, especially in the lives of families who are less fortunate. Sharing resources will help some people get started on formulating ideas. These resources are a fast and easy way to help others, and receive help.
3. I think it is great that the web 2.0 tools are all free. Web 2.0 tools help people create new ways of sharing ideas to each other. Whether it be a movie, a video, a blog, or a wiki, ideas are constantly being thrown around so that others can receive them and use them whichever way they wish.
4. The web 2.0 tool that I find most useful is Skype. I think that using webcams and sounds to talk to people is a great idea. I personally use Skype all the time. When I am away from friends and family I like to keep in contact with them, and sometimes using the phone doesn’t always cut it. Seeing someone’s face and seeing their expressions while talking makes everything much more fun and enjoyable. I am able to connect with anybody in the world who has a microphone and camera for their computer. I talk to friends in different states all over the country. It’s always fun video chatting with someone instead of using the phone.
5. Kerpoof.com is a very fun resource for students. Students will be able to work on their comprehension skills while making a story using colorful designs and pictures. Students will have the ability to think of their own ideas and create their own story.
1. There are many benefits for being able to share resources online. This helps those who may not be as fortunate as some to learn more about technology. It helps everyone to have access to new ideas and also allows people to be able to share their thoughts and ideas with others. Shared resources online could help me trememdousely as a future teacher. I could use online resources to help me create exciting lesson plans and activities for my classroom.
ReplyDelete2. Some reasons for sharing resources on Open Course Ware are that, it allows people to help make a difference in the lives of families and in those lives of those who are less fortunate. It is also a quick way to share ideas and get feedback.
3. I liked the KerPoof game. I think this would be a fun game for children to us. Games like this helps children have fun and stay out of trouble. It is a very interactive tool for them to use.
4. I think the Glogster would be the most fun to use in the classroom. I like that it creates a variety of posters for the children to click on and use. I feel that this would keep children entertained and would be a way for them to have fun and also help them learn more about technology.
5. I think that KerPoof would be a tool that would help children in their comprehension skills and also help teach them more about what characters are in stories. I also like that it allows them to be creative and use different designs.
I really think that open resources on the internet are such tool. These new tools allow people to share their ideas, and learn from eachother, which can be very beneficial in the long run. It allows one to get feedback from other people. Some reasons for sharing resources is that it gives you the oppurtunity to get feedback and help others that are less fortunate than you with Open Course Ware. I used the different games and found that they would be very beneficial for children to use. I really liked the KerProof game, and I think children would have fun and learn at the same time from playing it. I think that the Glogster would be the most interesting and fun for children to use in the classroom. Because it has such a variety, it wont make the children bored. The game creates different posters for the children to use. I think KerPoof is also a great tool that can help children with different skills, such as comprehension and understanding a story. It also helps children learn to use different technology.
ReplyDeleteThere are many benefits to using resources online. There are so many lesson plans and informational sites that I could use in my classroom in the future. It also allows people to collaborate, share, and develop ideas with each other.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Open Course Ware, sharing resources allows people in less privileged areas to access necessary resources and lets people share ideas with each other without taking time out of their busy schedule to visit one another. Sharing allows information to be accessed from different places in the world instantly and effectively.
My favorite Web 2.0 that I like the most and is probably the most useful is Skype. It allows people to talk and see each other when they are in different parts of the world. It is such an effective way to keep in touch with people and it's so easy to use. Talking to someone and being able to see their facial expressions is so much better (and more fun) than talking to them on the phone!
I do not think that I would have made it this far in the Education field without the help of my "web friends!" I think that it really helps build a digital community, and it benefits people on both ends of the spectrum. Sharing and discussing old and new ideas really helps people understand concepts and meaning better. It also connects people with one another, even if you are on the other side of the world.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I read about Open Course Ware, their views on sharing resources online is pretty positive:) They are able to provide free, which is always an uplifting thing to read, and accessible materials for teachers, students, self-learners all around the world. When you open free resources to the public, you are creating a community of trust, respect, and encouragement.
1. Having resources online is an advantage for everybody. The information given is unlimited in any area. For me, it helps me create creative lesson plans and activities. Without having resources available i dont believe I would have made it this far in the education field, because i wouldnt know where to start with designing lessons, and i wouldnt have thought of ideas other teachers have put up. I can use these sites in my classroom by revising my lessons according to new information found, and posting for other teachers to maybe help like others had helped me.
ReplyDelete2. Reasons for sharing resources are that they allow people in less privileged areas to access necessary resources and allow colleagues to share ideas with each other without taking time out of their busy schedule to visit one another.
3. Web 2.0 tools help people create new ways of sharing ideas to each other. Whether it be a movie, a video, a blog, or a wiki, ideas are constantly being thrown around so that others can receive them and build off or create their own.
4. Glogster I think would be most important to use int he classroom because it allows the student to deeper their understanding of the stories through different posters. a teacher could use this in her classroom to help the students by sharing the information she receives.
There are many benefits for being able to share information online as a teacher and as a student. As a teacher, the resources for lesson planning are endless. There are ideas for projects, information for content, and many teaching sites for information. Teachers can take ideas found and use them in their own classrooms or add their own ideas to them. I actually feel really bad for all the teachers in the past that did not have all the technology that we have today. Having the internet also saves educators a lot of time that could be spent doing other things for their classrooms.
ReplyDeleteAs I went through the various web 2.0 tools, I was really interested to learn that there was so much out there that many people (including myself) do not know about. This will be very beneficial to communicate with parents and students in my own classroom. I think that the most interesting was the Yackpack. I found this one to be very beneficial for communication purposes. I know as a parent, I like to be involved in what my child is doing at school and having a web site to go to would be great to keep myself involved. It would also be nice to have for the students so that they can always log on to see their assignments or communicate with other students (for educational purposes). This is a very beneficial thing for those who have access to computers/internet.
I found kerpoof.com to be a little hard to understand at first – but like every program, you must play around with it to understand it. I think this would be great for students to use. I think there would definitely need to be teacher directed at first to familiarize the students, but after that I think that children would really like this site. It will help with creativity and imagination for an ELA project to create a story for the students to share with their class.
There are several benefits of being able to share resources online. I love being able to use great resources to help me create lessons or create my own based on ideas I find on the web. I can use these shared resources in my classroom by looking at sample lesson plans shared online to get an idea of how to begin my own lessons. Parts of kerpoof.com were easy to figure out, but other parts were a little more challenging like making a movie.
I think skpe is one of my favorite forms of technology.
There are several benefits, some are students can share important ideas and communication with other children. One benefit for the teacher is that they can get ideas for their lesson plans.
ReplyDeleteI like gloger, because it shows students that there are other students with the same ideas, also it makes the students think deeper. I wold consider using this website in my future classroom
1.Being able to share resources online is very beneficial because anyone can look at the information from anywhere, as long as they have a computer and access to the internet. In my future classroom I could use online resources to post homework assignments, extension work, online educational games, and other additional information my students can use through a site such as Wiki, BlogSpot, or WetPaint.
ReplyDelete2.Open Course Ware is free and anyone can use it as long as they have an account. Setting up an account is usually as easy as typing in your name, e-mail address and a personal password. Once an account is made, you can go in and edit or add to already created web pages. Our EDU 315 class website is the perfect example. Dr. Shi posts most of the information but if one of us finds something useful (like a website) we can go in and edit the page and post the link to the class web site so everyone can view that site.
3.Web 2.0 tools are awesome because they are so versatile. You can create any kind of web page you want and make it your own – putting information for your students and parents to view along with creating sub-pages for other areas of curriculum or topics. Teachers can also create a class blog for students to post discussions and comments and questions and the students can work together in answering questions and concerns they might have.
4.I think Wiki is the most useful web 2.0 tool because it is a teacher created online site where students can go to find out what’s due, print off extra handouts (incase they lost or forgot them), and also find educational resources and games online posted in the Wiki by the teacher.
5.KerPoof allows students and teachers to create their own movies, pictures, stories, cards, or use the doodle pad. In class, like we are going to be doing, the teacher can have the students write a story then use KerPoof to create, design, and animate their story.
